Turkish Airlines Introduces Biometric Face Recognition for Faster Boarding

Turkish Airlines (THY) is set to revolutionize the boarding process with the introduction of biometric face recognition technology at Istanbul and Izmir airports, promising to reduce waiting times for passengers significantly.

Successful Trials in the U.S.

The innovative system has already undergone successful trials at Boston and Miami airports. On Turkish Airlines flights from these locations, the face recognition technology enhanced the boarding experience by significantly reducing the time required for passengers to board their flights.

Faster and Smoother Boarding

Kerem Kiziltunc, Deputy General Manager of Turkish Airlines, emphasized the potential of this new technology to transform the passenger experience.

“As Turkish Airlines continues to lead the way in digitalization, we are now embarking on a biometric journey. Our project, which started in Miami and Boston, has been a great success in reducing boarding time. We plan to implement this contactless boarding process soon at new stations in Seul, Izmir, and Istanbul,” Kiziltunc said.

The face recognition system is expected to accelerate the boarding process by up to 50%, providing a seamless and efficient experience for passengers.

Next Steps for Turkish Airlines

Following the U.S. trials, the airline is preparing to launch the biometric technology at Istanbul and Izmir airports in the coming months. The new system will allow passengers to board without the need to show traditional boarding passes, enhancing both safety and convenience.

Looking ahead, Turkish Airlines aims to expand this cutting-edge technology to other airports worldwide, reinforcing its position as a leader in digital innovation within the aviation industry.
