Turkish Airlines Halts Ticket Sales to Mexico from Russia

Turkish Airlines has stopped selling tickets to Mexico from Russia, reports the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR).

“Turkish Airlines has stopped selling tickets to Mexico from Russia,” the association stated, specifying that a notification of the absence of any flights in this direction appears when searching on the airline’s website.

The publication’s correspondent verified this: it was not possible to find any tickets for flights to Mexico City and Cancun from Moscow on various dates. Instead, a message appeared stating, “There are no flights available for the selected date and route, or all of our tickets have been sold out.”

Since late February, Turkish Airlines has not allowed passengers, including Russians, to board flights from Istanbul to Latin America for various reasons, including lack of baggage or an empty passport, which in some cases are not explicitly stated, according to previously removed passengers. Some of them plan to sue the airline.

One affected passenger shared Turkish Airlines’ response, in which the airline stated that the decision to refuse passengers is made by a third-party company responsible for security at the airport. The issue of refusing Russians has become systematic and negatively affects the company’s reputation, previously stated Russian Consul General in Istanbul, Andrey Buravov.

Earlier on Wednesday, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, stated that Moscow is working with Ankara on the situation with Turkish Airlines.
