Alaska Airlines has announced the launch of two major international routes: daily nonstop service from Seattle to London Heathrow and seasonal flights to Reykjavik, Iceland, beginning spring 2026. These ambitious additions mark a defining moment for the airline as it continues to expand its intercontinental footprint and reimagine its identity on the world stage.
The announcement also comes with a visual evolution: a new global livery inspired by the ethereal beauty of the Northern Lights. This striking design will be featured on Alaska’s upcoming fleet of up to 17 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners — aircraft that symbolize both technological prowess and long-haul luxury. The new exterior, evoking the Aurora Borealis, blends the airline’s heritage with a bold global vision.
Elevated Service to London on the Dreamliner
The Seattle–London Heathrow route, served daily on the widebody 787-9, signals Alaska’s most premium offering yet. With 34 lie-flat Business Class suites, the airline is clearly targeting both corporate travelers and discerning leisure passengers seeking comfort and connectivity. London remains the most in-demand international market from Seattle, with more than 400 passengers flying between the cities each day.
This new route deepens Alaska’s strategic collaborations with British Airways and American Airlines — part of the oneworld alliance — enhancing transatlantic connectivity and creating more opportunities to earn and redeem miles through Alaska’s acclaimed loyalty program. For travelers from the West Coast, Alaska, and Hawaiʻi, the route adds flexibility and a fresh alternative for reaching Europe’s most connected hub.
Seasonal Adventure to Reykjavik
Reykjavik joins the network as a summer seasonal route, flown with the Boeing 737-8 MAX, known for its fuel efficiency and long-range capabilities. Iceland continues to attract nature lovers and adventure seekers, and this route promises easy access to the island’s dramatic landscapes and geothermal wonders — while also serving as a gateway to mainland Europe.
A Vision for the Future
These routes are just the beginning. Alaska Airlines plans to serve at least 12 intercontinental destinations from its hometown hub in Seattle by 2030. This growing global strategy is anchored by the airline’s commitment to providing elevated onboard experiences, forward-looking aircraft, and an expanding network designed to compete with the best in international aviation.
“Our new 787 exterior embodies Alaska’s transition to a global airline with beauty, grace and a nod to our heritage,” said Andrew Harrison, Chief Commercial Officer at Alaska Airlines. “As we significantly expand to new destinations around the globe, we’re eager for more and more travelers to recognize our new livery as being Alaska Airlines and appreciate the outstanding service we’ve long been known for.”
From the Northern Lights–inspired livery to nonstop routes that connect the Pacific Northwest with the heart of Europe, Alaska Airlines is making it clear: the future is global.
