Alaska Airlines Unveils New Long-Haul Business Class as It Expands to Europe and Asia

Alaska Airlines is stepping into the long-haul spotlight with the launch of its first-ever International Business Class, marking a major shift as the carrier expands beyond its traditional North American network into Europe and Asia.

The new premium product will debut this spring aboard Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, positioning Seattle as a growing global gateway and strengthening the airline’s role within the oneworld alliance, which connects travellers to more than 900 destinations worldwide.

At the core of the new offering are fully lie-flat suites designed for long-haul comfort. Each seat features a privacy door, direct aisle access, and a spacious layout that converts into a full flat bed – aligning Alaska with leading global carriers in the premium travel segment.

The onboard experience has been built around a distinctly West Coast identity. Passengers can expect restaurant-style dining with multi-course menus that vary by route, blending regional ingredients with international flavours. Signature touches include curated wine selections from both the US West Coast and Europe, alongside craft beverages and specialty coffee.

Menus will reflect destination influences, with dishes tailored to each route. Travellers flying to Rome, for example, may see Italian-inspired options, while flights to Seoul will feature Korean flavours. A dessert cart with customizable options adds a final premium touch to the in-flight dining experience.

Comfort extends beyond the seat. Bedding has been developed in partnership with Filson, a well-known Pacific Northwest brand, and includes a mattress pad, duvet, and multiple pillows. Amenity kits feature skincare products and reusable items, reinforcing a focus on both comfort and sustainability.

On the ground, passengers will have access to Alaska’s growing lounge network, as well as partner lounges through the oneworld alliance. Top-tier frequent flyers will also gain entry to First Class lounges globally, regardless of their ticket class.

Connectivity is also evolving. The airline plans to introduce Starlink Wi-Fi on its 787 fleet later this year, offering high-speed internet across long-haul routes, with free access available for eligible customers through partnership programs.

The new cabin launches alongside Alaska’s international route expansion from Seattle. Nonstop flights to Rome begin April 28, followed by London on May 21 and Reykjavík on May 28. Services to Seoul are also being introduced, with Tokyo planned for later in the year.

For travellers, the move signals a new competitor in the long-haul premium market, particularly on routes connecting the US West Coast with Europe and Asia. With upgraded cabins, expanded destinations, and a strong focus on onboard experience, Alaska Airlines is positioning itself as a serious player in global travel – not just a regional carrier.
