Historic Florence Landmark Reopens As Porta Rossa Hotel Firenze, Colbert Collection

Minor Hotels has officially opened Porta Rossa Hotel Firenze, Colbert Collection, marking the global debut of its new Colbert Collection luxury soft brand in the heart of Florence.

The 69-room boutique hotel opened on 12 May 2026 following an extensive renovation of the historic Via Porta Rossa property, which is believed to be the oldest hotel in Italy with origins dating back to 1386.

Historic Florence Landmark Reimagined

Located within Florence’s historic centre, Porta Rossa Hotel Firenze occupies a landmark building that once welcomed silk merchants and later became a recognised hospitality address during the Renaissance period.

The restoration carefully preserved original architectural elements including frescoes, vaulted ceilings, the building’s signature red entrance door, and a stained-glass window carrying the historic motto “Per non dormire”.

The redevelopment was designed to balance Renaissance heritage with contemporary Italian luxury through a sensitive restoration approach.

69 Rooms And Suites Inspired By Renaissance Palazzos

The hotel features 69 guestrooms and suites designed to reflect the atmosphere of private Renaissance residences, incorporating draped headboards, embroidered wallcoverings, leather finishes, textile canopies, and mineral-inspired tones.

Among the standout accommodations are six signature suites inspired by Florence’s artistic and architectural heritage.

The Bartolini Frescoed Suite preserves 18th-century frescoes across its interiors, while the Amici Miei Frescoed Junior Suite references the iconic Italian film shot at the property.

The hotel’s most exclusive accommodation is the Torre Monalda Signature Suite, located inside a surviving 13th-century medieval tower offering panoramic 360-degree views across Florence.

Michelin-Starred Dining Concept Launching

The hotel’s public spaces were designed around Colbert Collection’s “art of gathering” concept, creating social spaces inspired by traditional Florentine piazzas.

A new restaurant led by Michelin-starred chef Paulo Airaudo is scheduled to launch in June, focusing on Italian cuisine rooted in local ingredients and regional traditions.

The property also includes a bistro bar alongside meeting and event spaces accommodating up to 40 guests.

Prime Location Near Florence Landmarks

Porta Rossa Hotel Firenze is located within walking distance of Florence’s major attractions including Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, the Uffizi Gallery, and the Arno River.

The location positions the property within one of Italy’s strongest luxury tourism and cultural travel markets.

Colbert Collection Begins Global Expansion

Porta Rossa Hotel Firenze becomes the first property under Minor Hotels’ newly launched Colbert Collection brand, which focuses on independent premium hotels centred around art, culture, gastronomy, and local identity.

Minor Hotels confirmed the brand’s expansion will continue with The WestDill Mayfair Hotel London opening in late 2026, followed by Colbert Collection Koh Samui in Thailand in early 2027.

To celebrate the Florence opening, Minor Hotels is offering a limited-time promotion through its Minor DISCOVERY loyalty programme, allowing members to earn double DISCOVERY Dollars during qualifying stays.
