easyJet Expands UK Network With Direct Flights From Southend To Budapest

easyJet is continuing its UK expansion with the launch of a new direct route linking London Southend Airport and Budapest, offering passengers in the Essex region easier access to one of Europe’s most popular city break destinations.

The airline confirmed that flights are now on sale, with the new service scheduled to begin on October 26, 2026. The route will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays throughout the winter season, targeting both leisure and business travellers.

A Unique Connection From Southend

easyJet will be the only airline operating direct flights between London Southend and Budapest, strengthening the airport’s growing European network.

The addition complements existing routes to major cities such as Amsterdam, Berlin, and Paris, positioning Southend as an increasingly attractive alternative to larger London airports for short-haul travel.

Designed For City Breaks And Business Travel

The flight schedule has been designed with flexibility in mind, making it particularly suitable for long weekends and short business trips.

Budapest remains a consistent favourite among travellers, known for its historic architecture, thermal baths, and vibrant cultural scene. The new route aims to capitalise on this demand while offering competitive fares and a more streamlined airport experience.

Kevin Doyle, UK Country Manager at easyJet, said the airline is focused on giving customers more choice from regional airports while maintaining affordability and convenience.

Strengthening Regional Connectivity

From the airport’s perspective, the new route marks another step in expanding its destination portfolio. With 26 routes available this year, London Southend Airport is building a diverse mix of city, beach, and ski destinations.

Nigel Mayes, Business Development Director at the airport, highlighted the importance of connectivity for passengers across Essex, London, and East Anglia, emphasizing the ease and efficiency of flying from Southend.

A Timely Addition For Winter Travel

Launching ahead of the winter season, the Budapest service is expected to appeal to travellers seeking off-peak European breaks, as well as business passengers requiring reliable, direct connections.

As airlines continue to diversify their UK departure points, easyJet’s latest move underscores the growing role of regional airports in meeting demand for convenient, short-haul travel across Europe.
