Located on Budapest’s lively Kazinczy Street, the new hotel introduces Moxy’s playful and experience-driven hospitality concept to one of the city’s most active nightlife and cultural districts.
Moxy Expands Into Hungary
The opening marks the first Moxy Hotels property in Hungary and represents another step in Marriott International’s continued expansion across Central and Eastern Europe.
Marriott said Budapest’s creative atmosphere, architecture and social scene made the city a natural fit for the Moxy brand.
Hotel Blends Budapest History With Contemporary Design
The hotel occupies a former dance institution and incorporates design references inspired by ballet, movement and Empress Elisabeth of Austria, also known as “Sisi,” the former Queen of Hungary.
The interiors were created by Austrian architecture and design studio BWM and combine industrial finishes with theatrical lighting and contemporary artwork.
A large graffiti installation by local artist Áron Hidvégi anchors the lobby space, reflecting the contrast between Budapest’s historic character and modern creative culture.
Social Spaces Central To Moxy Experience
In keeping with Moxy’s social-focused concept, guests check in at Bar Moxy while receiving a complimentary welcome cocktail.
The hotel’s public spaces are designed to encourage interaction, social events and informal gatherings between travellers and local residents.
Moxy Budapest Downtown offers 281 guest rooms equipped with modern technology, workspaces and functional design features.
Rooftop Bar Inspired By “Sisi”
The property’s rooftop venue, Saddle & Sky, draws inspiration from Empress Elisabeth’s well-known passion for horse riding.
The rooftop cocktail bar is expected to become one of the hotel’s main social attractions alongside future restaurant concepts planned for the ground floor.
Project Forms Part Of Wider Urban Redevelopment
The development was created by Hungarian real estate and investment company Forestay Group as part of a broader urban revitalisation strategy for central Budapest.
The project aims to strengthen Kazinczy Street and the surrounding district as a mixed-use destination combining hospitality, gastronomy, culture and community spaces.
Sustainability Features Included Across Development
Moxy Budapest Downtown received BREEAM Excellent certification for sustainable urban development.
Environmental features include energy-efficient systems, solar panels and more than 80 electric vehicle charging stations.
The project also incorporated extensive landscaping, including 81 mature trees and more than 10,000 ornamental plants and shrubs to improve biodiversity within the city centre.
Budapest Continues Attracting International Hotel Investment
Budapest has continued attracting strong international hotel investment in recent years as tourism growth, city-break demand and lifestyle hospitality concepts expand across Central Europe.
Lifestyle hotel brands in particular have increasingly targeted Budapest’s creative districts and nightlife-focused neighbourhoods as demand grows among younger and experience-oriented travellers.
