Turkey Lifts Visa Requirements for Romanian Citizens

Romanian citizens can now travel to Turkey for tourism and transit purposes using only their national ID cards, following the lifting of visa requirements by Turkey. The decision was made after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed a decree during the visit of Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu to Turkey. The new regulation is expected to come into effect at the beginning of next month, pending the implementation of technical changes related to the new rules.

As of March 31 this year, Romania has partially joined the EU’s Schengen Zone, allowing for visa-free travel by air and sea, while land border controls remain in place. Despite Turkey’s decision to abolish visas for Romanian citizens, Turkish citizens traveling to Romania are still required to obtain a visa before their journey.

This move is expected to foster closer ties between Romania and Turkey and promote tourism between the two countries. It also reflects Turkey’s efforts to facilitate travel and strengthen diplomatic relations with its European neighbors.
