Turkey is set to introduce the Mesopotamia Express, an extraordinary railway expedition through some of its most storied regions. Departing from Ankara, this immersive journey promises to take travelers on a captivating voyage through the heartlands of eastern and southeastern Anatolia.
The Mesopotamia Express, slated to commence its inaugural run in April, will cover a distance of 1051 kilometers, offering passengers an unparalleled opportunity to explore the diverse landscapes and millennia-old landmarks along the route. From arid desert plains to majestic mountain vistas, the expedition promises a visual feast for the senses.
Among the highlights of the journey are the planned stops in historic cities such as Kayseri, Malatya, and Elazig, where passengers will have the chance to delve into the region’s rich cultural heritage.
In Kayseri, once the capital of Cappadocia, travelers will marvel at the architectural marvels of the Seljuk era, including mosques, tombs, and madrasas dating back to the 13th century. Mesopotamia Express Ticket Prices and Schedule
The Mesopotamia Express is scheduled to embark on its maiden voyage from Ankara on April 19, with the return journey commencing from Diyarbakir on April 21. Operating on a monthly basis during the summer season, the train features nine sleeping cars and one restaurant car, accommodating up to 180 passengers.
Passengers can choose from a range of ticket options, with prices starting from 9,000 Turkish lira ($280) for a cabin accommodating two persons on the Ankara-Diyarbakir route. Tickets for the return journey begin at 8,000 Turkish lira ($250) per cabin.
