To bolster its economy and tourism sector, Turkey has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative aimed at attracting remote workers and freelancers from around the globe. The Turkish Ministry of Culture, through its Agency for Promotion and Development of Tourism, has introduced the Digital Nomad Visa, offering foreign nationals the opportunity to live and work remotely in Turkey.

The announcement, made by the tourism agency, outlines the eligibility criteria for the visa, which targets individuals aged between 21 and 55. Applicants must demonstrate their ability to work remotely and sustain a steady income, with a minimum requirement of $3,000 per month or $36,000 annually. Additionally, candidates must hold a diploma of higher education or equivalent documentation.
Foreigners meeting these criteria can apply for the Digital Nomad Visa through the Ministry of Culture’s online portal. Upon approval, they will receive a certificate enabling them to apply for the visa at Turkish consulates or visa centers.
The initiative aims to attract remote workers and freelancers to designated areas, particularly focusing on Istanbul and Dalaman in the resort province of Mugla. These locations offer conducive environments for remote work, along with ample opportunities for cultural and historical exploration.
The move comes amidst challenges faced by Turkey’s tourism sector, particularly concerning seasonal fluctuations in visitor numbers and spending patterns. By targeting digital nomads, the government hopes to mitigate the impact of off-season lulls and stimulate economic activity during traditionally quieter periods.
