EasyJet Warned About Possible Cancellations After May 12

EasyJet has warned passengers travelling after May 12 to remain alert as concerns grow across the aviation industry about a possible jet fuel supply crunch linked to tensions in the Gulf region.

The warning was issued by Javier Gándara, the airline’s country director for southern Europe, who said it remains difficult to predict how severe the situation could become over the coming weeks.

Airline Warns Situation Could Develop Quickly

According to Gándara, the next three to four weeks will be critical in determining whether fuel supply pressures begin affecting airline operations more broadly.

That timeline places potential disruption risks from around May 12 onward, raising concerns for passengers with upcoming summer travel bookings.

The comments come as airlines continue monitoring the impact of ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Gulf on global energy and aviation fuel markets.

While no operational changes have yet been announced, the warning reflects growing industry concern over possible volatility in jet fuel availability and pricing.

EasyJet Says Fuel Hedging Offers Protection

EasyJet said it is currently better positioned than some competitors because of its fuel hedging strategy.

The airline has already secured approximately 70% of its projected kerosene requirements for the next six months through forward purchasing contracts.

According to Gándara, those contracts were locked in at pricing levels similar to those before the recent conflict escalation, at around $700 per metric tonne.

The strategy is expected to provide the airline with some protection against short-term price spikes and supply instability.

Aviation Industry Closely Watching Gulf Developments

Airlines worldwide remain highly sensitive to fuel market disruptions, as jet fuel costs represent one of the industry’s largest operating expenses.

Any prolonged disruption to global oil or kerosene supply chains could place additional financial pressure on carriers while potentially affecting schedules and ticket pricing during the peak summer travel season.

EasyJet has not indicated that cancellations or schedule reductions are currently planned, but passengers with departures later in May and into summer are being advised to stay updated as the situation develops.
