Wizz Air is strengthening its position in the Italian market with a new phase of expansion at Venice Marco Polo Airport, announcing additional aircraft capacity and five new routes.
The low-cost carrier, currently the second-largest airline in Italy by market share, confirmed during a joint press conference with SAVE Group that a fourth Airbus A321neo will be based in Venice from September 2026.
The announcement was made by Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale and Camillo Bozzolo, who highlighted the strategic importance of Venice within Wizz Air’s expanding European network.
The addition of the new aircraft will significantly increase the airline’s operational capacity at the airport, creating around 500,000 additional seats annually.
The expansion is also expected to deliver economic benefits for the region. According to the airline, the new aircraft will create around 40 direct jobs, increasing the number of Wizz Air employees based in Venice to more than 120, while supporting more than 350 indirect jobs across the local aviation supply chain.
Alongside the aircraft investment, Wizz Air will launch five new routes that further strengthen the international connectivity of Venice.
Flights to Bilbao and Malaga will begin on 14 September 2026. Services to Alicante and Seville will follow on 15 September 2026.
In addition, a new domestic route between Venice and Naples will launch on 1 December 2026, strengthening connectivity between northern and southern Italy.
The new services will operate with the following frequencies:
- Naples – 11 weekly flights operating daily from 1 December 2026
- Bilbao – four weekly flights beginning 14 September 2026
- Malaga – four weekly flights beginning 14 September 2026
- Alicante – three weekly flights starting 15 September 2026
- Seville – three weekly flights starting 15 September 2026
Airline executives say the expansion reflects growing demand for both leisure and business travel to and from Venice, one of Italy’s most visited destinations, while reinforcing the airport’s role as a key gateway for international travellers.
