Wizz Air has announced a major expansion in Spain with the opening of its first operational bases in the country, located at Madrid and Valencia airports. The new bases will begin operations in early November and mark one of the airline’s largest investments in the Spanish market to date.
The Madrid base is scheduled to open on 3 November, followed by the Valencia base on 2 November. Four aircraft from Wizz Air’s fleet will be permanently based at the two airports, strengthening the airline’s operational network and supporting future growth in Spain.
New Routes Across Spain and Europe
The new bases will enable Wizz Air to launch 10 new domestic routes and three new international services, giving travellers more direct connections within Spain and to destinations across Europe.
In addition, the airline will introduce seven further new routes throughout Spain and increase frequencies on several existing services, offering greater flexibility for both leisure and business travellers.
According to Wizz Air, establishing operational bases in Madrid and Valencia creates the infrastructure needed to support long-term expansion in one of Europe’s largest aviation markets.
Investment in Spain
The airline said the expansion demonstrates its long-term commitment to Spain while delivering wider economic benefits for local communities. Alongside improved connectivity, the investment is expected to support employment in tourism, hospitality, airport services and other industries linked to aviation.
The bases will initially operate with four aircraft from Wizz Air’s modern fleet, supporting the airline’s strategy of operating one of Europe’s youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets.
More Than 150 New Jobs
As part of the expansion, Wizz Air plans to recruit more than 150 new pilots and cabin crew based in Madrid and Valencia.
Cabin crew recruitment events will be held in both Spanish cities, while pilot recruitment sessions will take place at the airline’s training centre in Rome during July and August.
Chief Executive Officer József Váradi described the announcement as a defining milestone for the airline in Spain, saying the investment reflects Wizz Air’s confidence in the country’s future and its ambition to become an even stronger player in the Spanish aviation market.
WIZZ Holidays Launches in Spain
Supporting its expansion, Wizz Air is also introducing WIZZ Holidays to the Spanish market. The package holiday platform allows customers to book flights, accommodation, airport transfers and multi-city itineraries through a single booking process.
The airline said the combined expansion of its route network and holiday platform is designed to make travel easier while providing customers with greater flexibility and value as Wizz Air continues to grow its presence across Spain.
