Wizz Air has been recognised by OAG as the world’s most punctual low-cost airline in May 2026, with an on-time performance score of 87.8% and a flight completion rate of 99.99% across its network.
The airline said the result came as it entered one of its busiest periods of the year, operating a record 1,200 flights a day and carrying more than 200,000 passengers daily.
Wizz Air has also introduced a range of operational and customer service measures to support reliable performance throughout the summer travel season.
The recognition places the budget carrier at the top of a key industry measure that tracks how often flights depart and arrive as scheduled. For travellers, punctuality can be one of the main factors when choosing a low-cost airline, especially during peak holiday periods when delays can quickly affect connecting plans, hotel check-ins and holiday schedules.
High completion rates also matter for passengers because they indicate how often scheduled flights are actually operated. A 99.99% completion rate means almost all planned services were flown, a result that may be particularly significant for an airline handling large daily volumes across a broad network.
Wizz Air’s performance comes at a time when European airlines are under pressure to keep aircraft and crews moving through busy summer schedules. Disruptions caused by air traffic control constraints, weather and airport congestion often affect low-cost carriers as they run tightly timed operations and high aircraft utilisation.
The latest figures also underline the scale of Wizz Air’s network. Operating 1,200 flights a day and carrying more than 200,000 passengers daily places it among Europe’s busiest low-cost airlines, with a schedule that depends on precise coordination across many airports and countries.
For the wider travel industry, the ranking is another sign that performance and reliability remain key selling points even in the price-sensitive budget sector. As airlines compete for holidaymakers, business travellers and frequent flyers, punctuality can shape brand loyalty as much as fares and route choice.
Wizz Air’s result will also be watched by rivals seeking to improve their own records during the peak summer months. In a period when demand is high and margins are tight, airlines that can combine low fares with consistent operational performance may be better placed to win passengers.
OAG’s ranking is widely followed in aviation because it provides a simple measure of how reliably airlines deliver scheduled service. For Wizz Air, the May result gives it a strong platform as the summer travel season gets under way.
