However, it’s important to note that the completion of the Evangelist towers does not mark the end of the basilica’s construction. The project is still very much ongoing, making Sagrada Familia a truly unique example of a World Heritage Site that continues to evolve even after its prestigious inclusion.
Construction began in 1882, with the aim of completing the basilica by 2026, coinciding with the centenary of Gaudi’s passing. This convergence of the past, present, and future makes Sagrada Familia an astonishing monument.
The festivities for the Evangelist towers’ completion will kick off on 4th November with a concert by the Barcelona Municipal Band at 11 am. The band will perform a repertoire of music that pays homage to the intricate connection between nature, faith, and art.
A week later, on 11th November at 11 am, four of the city’s traditional casteller groups will create human towers as a tribute to those adorning the basilica.
On 12th November, at 5:30 pm, Cardinal Joan Josep Omella will conduct a service to bless the towers. Following the service, Sagrada Familia will illuminate its four Evangelist towers for the very first time.
