Protesters in Barcelona took to the streets on Saturday, spraying visitors with water as part of a demonstration against mass tourism. Demonstrators marched through popular tourist areas, chanting “tourists go home” and squirting tourists with water pistols. Others carried signs with slogans such as “Barcelona is not for sale.”
Thousands of protesters participated in the latest demonstration against mass tourism in Spain, echoing similar actions recently seen in the Canary Islands and Mallorca. These protests decry the impact of mass tourism on living costs and quality of life for local residents.
The demonstration was organized by the Assemblea de Barris pel Decreixement TurÃstic (Neighborhood Assembly for Tourism Degrowth), a coalition of more than 100 local organizations.
