Luxury hospitality brand Six Senses has opened its first hotel in the UK capital, launching a new property within the redeveloped The Whiteley complex.
The hotel, called Six Senses London, marks a significant milestone for the brand’s urban expansion strategy and forms part of the growing luxury and lifestyle portfolio of IHG Hotels & Resorts.
Located between Hyde Park and Notting Hill, the hotel occupies roughly a quarter of the historic Whiteley redevelopment, which has transformed the former department store into a mixed-use destination combining residences, retail and hospitality.
A new urban direction for Six Senses
The London opening reflects Six Senses’ increasing focus on city-based luxury hotels. Traditionally known for remote resorts, the brand has recently launched urban properties including Six Senses Rome and Six Senses Kyoto.
According to the company, the strategy is designed to bring the brand’s wellness-focused philosophy into major global capitals while maintaining its emphasis on sustainability, wellbeing and “reconnection”.
Neil Palmer, chief operating officer of Six Senses, said the London project represents an important step for the brand as it adapts its concept for urban environments.
“By bringing the Six Senses core vision of reconnection to cosmopolitan cities such as Rome, Kyoto, and now London, we are creating urban sanctuaries,” he said.
Design, residences and wellness focus
The hotel features 109 rooms and suites, many with private terraces, along with 14 branded residences.
Interior spaces were designed by AvroKO in partnership with EPR Architects, combining contemporary design with elements referencing the building’s historic heritage.
A major highlight of the property is its 2,300-square-metre wellness centre. The spa includes cryotherapy facilities, a 20-metre indoor swimming pool, flotation therapy rooms and a full fitness centre.
The property also introduces the first “Six Senses Place”, a private members’ club concept that combines social spaces, wellness programming and curated events for members.
Major redevelopment partnership
The Whiteley project was delivered through collaboration between several international developers and investors including CC Land Holdings, Valouran and Gruppo Statuto, alongside IHG and Six Senses.
The opening signals another milestone in the broader transformation of the Bayswater district, where the historic Whiteley building has been reimagined as one of London’s newest luxury lifestyle destinations.
