Marriott Opens 10,000th Hotel Worldwide Ahead of 100th Anniversary

Marriott International has reached a historic milestone with the opening of its 10,000th property worldwide, the JW Marriott Ranthambore Resort & Spa in India, as the hospitality giant prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

The achievement highlights nearly a century of growth since the company was founded in 1927 as a small nine-seat root beer stand. Today, Marriott operates one of the world’s largest hotel portfolios, spanning 146 countries and territories.

A Landmark Moment for Marriott

The milestone property, JW Marriott Ranthambore Resort & Spa, officially opened near Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan, one of India’s most celebrated wildlife destinations.

Marriott International President and CEO Anthony Capuano described the opening as a significant moment in the company’s history.

“Marriott was founded 99 years ago as a nine-seat root beer stand, and as of today, has grown into a global portfolio of 10,000 properties spanning 146 countries and territories,” Capuano said.

He noted that the milestone is particularly meaningful because the hotel carries the JW Marriott name, honouring company co-founder J. Willard Marriott.

Luxury Retreat Near Ranthambore National Park

Located a short drive from Ranthambore National Park, the resort has been designed as a luxury nature retreat that combines wildlife experiences with upscale hospitality.

The property features 127 accommodations, including guestrooms, suites and private villas.

Dining options showcase a mix of modern Indian cuisine, regional specialties and locally inspired cocktails, while the resort’s design reflects the surrounding landscape and cultural heritage of Rajasthan.

The opening was celebrated by Marriott executives, including Chairman of the Board David Marriott and Asia Pacific President Rajeev Menon, alongside the property’s owners, the Gadhiya family.

Strengthening Marriott’s Luxury Portfolio

The new resort further expands the JW Marriott brand, which now includes more than 130 properties around the world.

JW Marriott forms part of Marriott’s broader luxury portfolio, which encompasses seven luxury brands and nearly 700 properties across 74 countries and territories.

The company continues to focus on experiential travel, wellness and destination-driven luxury stays in some of the world’s most sought-after locations.

Recent Global Openings

The 10,000-property milestone comes during a period of continued expansion across multiple market segments.

Recent openings include The St. Regis Budapest, which introduced the luxury brand to Hungary for the first time, and The Westin Playa Vallarta, Westin’s first all-inclusive resort in Mexico.

Marriott has also expanded its residential and extended-stay offerings, with the opening of Artik Suzhou, Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy in China and StudioRes by Marriott Greensboro Airport in the United States.

Looking Towards a Century of Hospitality

As Marriott approaches its centenary in 2027, the company continues to diversify its portfolio across luxury, premium, select-service and extended-stay segments.

The opening of JW Marriott Ranthambore not only marks a major numerical milestone but also reflects Marriott’s ongoing strategy of expanding into high-demand leisure destinations while strengthening its presence in key international markets.
