Marriott International has signed an agreement to introduce the Le Méridien brand to Queensland’s Whitsundays with the redevelopment of Lindeman Island Resort.
The project marks the first Le Méridien property in the Whitsundays and the second Le Méridien hotel in Australia.
Major Redevelopment Planned For Lindeman Island
The resort is expected to reopen in late 2027 following a major AU$60 million redevelopment led by Singapore-based real estate company Well Smart Group.
The project will be managed by La Vie Hotels and Resorts under a new collaboration agreement with Marriott International.
The signing also represents La Vie Hotels and Resorts’ first official partnership with Marriott as part of the three-party agreement.
Luxury Lifestyle Resort Planned Across 70 Hectares
Located on a 70-hectare beachfront site on Lindeman Island, the resort is being redeveloped as a luxury island retreat focused on lifestyle experiences, wellness and outdoor recreation.
The property originally closed in 2012 and is now being repositioned as a contemporary destination combining modern design with premium hospitality.
Le Méridien Resort To Feature 200 Rooms
Once completed, Le Méridien Lindeman Island Resort & Spa is expected to include 200 guestrooms and nine suites.
The development will also feature two restaurants, a lobby lounge and bar, conference and event facilities, a resort-style swimming pool and a fitness centre.
Additional amenities will include Explore Spa by Le Méridien, tennis courts, a Kids Club and a variety of recreational activities such as water sports, indoor golf and archery.
Whitsundays Continues Luxury Tourism Growth
The Whitsundays region remains one of Australia’s most important luxury tourism destinations, attracting both domestic and international travellers with its island resorts, beaches and access to the Great Barrier Reef.
Industry analysts say the redevelopment reflects growing investment interest in high-end experiential tourism across Queensland’s coastal regions.
Le Méridien Continues Global Expansion
Le Méridien currently operates more than 120 hotels and resorts worldwide as part of Marriott International’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio.
The addition of Lindeman Island strengthens Marriott’s Australian resort presence while expanding the Le Méridien brand into one of the country’s best-known island tourism markets.
