Milan Bergamo Airport is continuing its rapid international expansion with the launch of a new route to Yerevan, marking a significant step in strengthening connections between Europe and the Caucasus.
From 1 May, FlyOne Armenia will begin operating a twice-weekly service between the two cities, with flights scheduled on Fridays and Sundays. Departures from Milan will take place in the evening, while return flights from Yerevan are set for the afternoon, offering convenient travel options for both leisure and business passengers.
The arrival of FlyOne Armenia brings the total number of scheduled airlines operating at Milan Bergamo to 23, while Yerevan becomes the airport’s 152nd destination for the summer season. The move reflects a broader strategy to expand beyond traditional European routes and position the airport as a gateway to emerging non-EU markets.
The new connection is expected to play a key role in linking Northern Italy with a wider network of destinations across Central Asia and the CIS. Through Yerevan, travelers will gain access to onward connections into a region that has seen growing demand but remains relatively underserved by direct European routes.
At the same time, the Armenian capital itself is emerging as a destination in its own right. Known for its deep cultural heritage, historic architecture and increasingly vibrant food scene, Yerevan is attracting travelers looking for alternatives to more saturated European city breaks.
The route is also likely to serve a practical purpose, supporting mobility for the Armenian diaspora living across Northern Italy and neighboring regions. Improved connectivity is expected to strengthen family, cultural and economic ties between the two regions.
According to Giacomo Cattaneo, Director of Commercial Aviation, Marketing and Communications at SACBO, the addition of Yerevan introduces a new dimension to the airport’s network. He noted that the route aligns with ongoing efforts to respond to evolving passenger demand, particularly toward destinations that combine tourism appeal with strong community connections.
FlyOne Armenia, part of the wider FlyOne Group, continues to expand its footprint across Europe and neighboring regions. Its entry into Milan Bergamo underlines the growing importance of secondary hubs in shaping future air connectivity.
As competition intensifies among European airports, the launch of routes like Yerevan signals a clear shift toward diversification, with carriers and airports alike focusing on new corridors that connect Europe with fast-growing regions beyond its borders.
