Wizz Air Opens New Base in Yerevan, Expands Routes Across Europe

Wizz Air, named EMEA’s Most Sustainable Airline Group of the Year, has officially opened its new base at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan in partnership with “Armenia” International Airports. The milestone was celebrated with a press conference and a ribbon-cutting ceremony welcoming the inaugural Naples–Yerevan flight, attended by Wizz Air executives and Armenian government officials.

The airline will station two modern Airbus A321neo aircraft in Yerevan, enabling the launch of eight new direct routes to major European destinations: Prague, Hamburg, Paphos, Paris, Naples, Bari, Bucharest, and Memmingen. Frequency on the Dortmund route will also increase to four flights per week. Additionally, Wizz Air has begun operating from Gyumri’s Shirak Airport, with new flights to Larnaca, Cyprus.

In total, Wizz Air expects to carry over 1.2 million passengers to and from Armenia in 2025, with ticket prices starting from 9,000 AMD (€21).

“We are delighted to welcome Yerevan as our newest base city,” said Roland Tischner, Managing Director of Wizz Air Hungary. “Armenia is becoming an increasingly important market for us. With two aircraft based here, we will operate 16 routes to nine countries, boosting connectivity, tourism, and job creation across the country.”

The new base is expected to support over 800 jobs in Armenia’s tourism and aviation sectors. Wizz Air has already hired more than 50 local pilots and cabin crew and plans further recruitment, including opportunities through its Wizz Air Pilot Academy.

Officials from “Armenia” International Airports and the Ministry of Economy hailed the move as a major step for Armenia’s aviation industry, strengthening connectivity, investment potential, and accessibility for both citizens and tourists.

With Yerevan now serving as its 34th base worldwide, Wizz Air continues to expand its footprint in the region. Since launching operations in Armenia in 2020, the airline has flown 2.6 million passengers and today leads the market with a 24% share, offering the only direct low-cost connections between Armenia and Europe.
