Turkey’s national carrier, Turkish Airlines, has announced plans to begin direct flights to Yerevan, in a move seen as part of the ongoing efforts to normalise relations between the two neighbours.
The airline confirmed the decision in a regulatory filing on Tuesday but has not yet disclosed the start date or frequency of the new service. Company officials said the schedule would depend on passenger demand and broader market conditions.
If implemented, this would mark the first time in years that Turkish Airlines has operated direct flights to Armenia. Currently, the only direct air connection between Yerevan and Istanbul is run by Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines, after Armenian airline FlyOne Armenia was forced to suspend operations through Turkish airspace following a government-imposed ban in 2023.
The announcement comes at a time when Ankara and Yerevan are cautiously moving toward improved diplomatic and economic ties, raising hopes of greater connectivity in the region.
