Iberia is expanding its transatlantic network once again, announcing a new daily route between Madrid and Newark Liberty International Airport beginning March 29, 2026. Timed with the start of the summer season in the airline industry, the service adds a third daily frequency to the New York area and strengthens Iberia’s position in one of its most competitive and high-demand markets.
The new Newark flight complements the existing two daily services to John F. Kennedy International Airport and provides a strategic alternative for travelers seeking faster, more direct access to Manhattan. Iberia expects the added flexibility, broader schedule options, and multi-airport choice to appeal to both leisure and business passengers.
The airline will offer more than 350,000 seats between Madrid and New York during the 2026 summer season—a 42 percent increase from 2025—driven largely by the Newark addition. This growth reinforces Iberia’s footprint along one of the busiest transatlantic corridors and reflects sustained passenger demand between Spain and the United States.

Iberia’s leadership underscores that the new route is central to Flight Plan 2030, the company’s long-term strategy to expand its presence across the Americas. According to Iberia’s Chief Commercial, Network Development and Alliances Officer, María Jesús López Solás, Newark’s proximity to Manhattan and its strong corporate travel base make it an ideal complement to the airline’s established JFK operations. Diversifying across both airports also supports schedule resilience and better alignment with market demand.
Iberia currently serves ten U.S. destinations, and the addition of Newark strengthens its commitment to the North American market. In 2025, the airline will offer nearly 2 million seats between Spain and the United States and operate an average of 150 weekly flights. This winter, Iberia maintains two daily flights to New York and Miami, up to two daily flights to Boston and Puerto Rico with the Airbus A321XLR, and year-round service to Washington. Chicago, Dallas Fort Worth, Orlando, and Los Angeles remain key routes, while San Francisco continues as a seasonal destination from May to September.
The broader network is supported by Iberia’s transatlantic joint business with American Airlines, British Airways, and Finnair, collectively offering access to 400 destinations in more than 100 countries.
Under Flight Plan 2030, Iberia is preparing to launch five new long-haul routes, supported by a €6 billion investment in fleet renewal, digitalization, customer experience enhancements, and an expansion from 48 to 70 long-haul aircraft. Recent additions include Orlando, Recife, and Fortaleza, with Monterrey and Toronto scheduled to start in summer 2026.
The Madrid–Newark service will be operated by the Airbus A321XLR, a next-generation aircraft enabling long-haul connectivity with significantly lower fuel consumption—up to 40 percent less than traditional wide-body models. The A321XLR introduces Iberia’s new Airspace cabin with LED lighting, upgraded comfort features, and a two-class configuration designed to elevate the passenger experience on transatlantic routes.
