Italy’s Ski Resorts Introduce Strict New Helmet Rules for All Visitors

Italy has introduced a new set of safety rules for everyone heading onto its ski slopes this season. According to Euronews, the country now requires all skiers, snowboarders, and even sledders to wear helmets starting 1 November. Until now, the rule applied only to minors, but the new regulation extends to every visitor on the mountain.

The helmets must carry CE certification, confirming they meet EU standards for health, safety, and environmental protection. Those who ignore the rule face fines of up to 200 euros and may also be temporarily barred from using ski lifts.

Euronews notes that no other country in the world has enforced a helmet mandate this strictly for all adult skiers. Many nations maintain requirements for minors, but Italy has moved decisively further.

The regulations go beyond head protection. Alcohol is banned on the slopes, and in some areas, even ordinary food is prohibited if consumed on the lift or in descent zones. Authorities argue these measures are necessary to reduce injuries and maintain a safer, more controlled environment at the resorts.
