Sir Hotels to Debut in London with Sir Devonshire Square

Sir Hotels is set to make its long-awaited UK debut with the opening of Sir Devonshire Square, a striking new property in East London housed in a former 18th-century textiles warehouse. The boutique hotel is a bold reimagining of utopian design, blending mid-century modernism, geometric forms, and an architecture-first approach that honors the building’s storied past.

Originally built as a storage facility for the East India Tea Company’s raw silks and fabrics, the warehouse later became a sought-after space for creative living in the 1980s. Today, its transformation into Sir Devonshire Square draws inspiration from both eras, guided by the philosophy of the late Sir Terence Conran—whose belief that good design should be accessible, playful, and diverse resonates throughout the interiors. The project has been spearheaded by interior architect and furniture designer Samuel Wright, founder of Maison191.

“Sir Devonshire Square feels like a hidden oasis, right on the cusp of one of the most creatively interesting, continually evolving areas of the capital,” said Stijn Oyen, Managing Director at Design Hotels. “Its distinctive modernist-meets-utopian aesthetic and boutique scale set it apart from other new London openings.”

A Hub for Creativity

The ground floor lobby and lounge are envisioned as a cultural gathering place, showcasing works by London-based artists such as Glen Gashi, Deepak Komath, and Femi Dawkins. Amsterdam-based curator Bionda Sno has assembled a collection of genesis-themed pieces exploring life and nature, while a dramatic agave fiber artwork by Mexican artist Beatriz Morales anchors the lounge’s fireplace.

Geometric staircases, terracotta tones, and an earthy Mediterranean palette define the interiors, while metro-tiled planters blur the line between the courtyard and the industrial glasshouse lobby. The design encourages connection and contemplation, offering cozy nooks, a curved corner bar, and spaces for gatherings year-round.

Rooms with Heritage and Surprise

The hotel’s 75 rooms and suites continue the dialogue between heritage and modern living. Bespoke wood veneer furniture—designed by Wright—sits alongside playful details like hidden vanity mirrors and magazine niches. Bauhaus-inspired textiles from Dedar, standalone tubs, and courtyard window seats add richness and comfort. Suites are further enhanced with Santa & Cole lighting and HAY lounge chairs.

Dining and Culture

Breakfast begins with nourishing bowls, fresh pastries, and specialty coffee, followed by an all-day dining menu of simple, seasonal plates for sharing. By evening, the lounge evolves into a wine bar and cultural venue, hosting DJ sessions, live music, art talks, and design panels.

Phase two will expand the offering with a restaurant, private members club, gym, and yoga studio.

Perfectly Placed

Located at the intersection of Spitalfields, Shoreditch, and the City of London, Sir Devonshire Square offers easy access to Liverpool Street Station and landmarks including St Paul’s Cathedral, Tate Modern, and Soho.

With its intentional design, neighborhood-rooted ethos, and commitment to culture, Sir Devonshire Square marks a new chapter for Sir Hotels in London—a boutique retreat where history, creativity, and community converge.
