Rail operator SNCB announced that a new budget-friendly rail service linking Brussels to Paris in three hours will officially launch on December 19. Ticket sales for the much-anticipated service, operated under the Ouigo brand, are now open, offering an affordable travel alternative between the two capitals.
Reviving Connectivity After Izy’s Discontinuation
The new line comes two and a half years after the discontinuation of the Izy service, previously run by Thalys, which connected Brussels to Paris in 2.5 hours. The new Ouigo route will reintroduce low-cost travel between the cities, with a slightly longer journey time of three hours but significantly cheaper tickets.
Convenient Stops and Flexible Options
In addition to Brussels-Midi and Paris-Nord, the service will make stops at Mons in Belgium and Aulnoye-Aymeries and Creil in France. The schedule will include three round trips daily in each direction, offering travelers flexibility and convenience.
Brussels to Paris. Affordable Pricing for All
Ticket prices range from €10 to €59 one way, ensuring accessibility for various budgets. Children under 12 can travel for a fixed price of €8, making it an attractive option for families.
Complementing High-Speed Services
The Ouigo service is a welcome addition to existing train options, including the Eurostar, which links Brussels and Paris in just 1.5 hours. While the travel time is longer, the lower costs make it a competitive choice for budget-conscious travelers.
This new line represents a significant step in expanding affordable rail options in Europe, bridging two major capitals with an emphasis on accessibility and comfort.
