Alaska Airlines has officially launched permanent electronic bag tags for travelers, a move aimed at streamlining the check-in process and reducing waste. First announced two years ago, the tags are now available for purchase at $89.
The concept has been in development for years, with initial testing dating back to 2016. Alaska began by distributing the tags to 2,500 Mileage Plan elite members, gathering feedback to refine the product. Based on user input, the airline improved the straps used to attach the tags to luggage and clarified self-service instructions to ensure a smoother process for travelers.
The permanent tags eliminate the need for paper bag tags typically printed at airport kiosks or counters. Travelers can sync the electronic tags with their flight details via a mobile app, making it easier to drop off checked luggage without additional steps at the airport.
This rollout aligns with Alaska Airlines’ broader efforts to modernize airport experiences, including the elimination of traditional check-in kiosks in favor of encouraging passengers to print bag tags at home. The new tags are designed to enhance efficiency and convenience, representing a significant step toward a more seamless and sustainable future for air travel.
With their durable design and user-friendly functionality, Alaska Airlines’ permanent bag tags offer a practical solution for frequent flyers seeking to simplify their journey.
