A&K Travel Group has announced plans to renovate and enhance two luxury safari lodges in Botswana and Uganda by mid-2025, bringing modern luxury and immersive design to these renowned locations. The upgrade will focus on Sanctuary Retreats’ Gorilla Forest Camp in Uganda, soon to be rebranded as Gorilla Forest Lodge, and Baines’ Lodge in Botswana, both esteemed for their unique wildlife encounters.
In Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Gorilla Forest Camp offers visitors a rare opportunity to be close to mountain gorillas. The upgraded lodge will debut with 10 expansive suites, each featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and wide decks that blend harmoniously with the surrounding forest. Woven banana leaf ceilings and textured plaster walls will add an organic, local touch. Established in 1985 through a partnership between A&K founder Geoffrey Kent and the Ugandan government, the lodge has provided a sustainable model for eco-tourism, benefiting both the gorillas and the Batwa people of the region.
Baines’ Lodge in Botswana’s Okavango Delta—part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site—promises a secluded safari experience. The redesigned lodge will feature six suites with private decks, star baths, and daybeds, offering an inviting escape. Guests can enjoy game drives in 4×4 vehicles through the Okavango’s lush landscapes, and, when water levels permit, explore the delta’s waterways in traditional mokoros.
Sanctuary Retreats, A&K’s luxury brand, operates 12 luxury safari lodges across Eastern and Southern Africa, as well as four riverboats in Egypt. These enhancements reinforce A&K’s dedication to sustainable luxury tourism, aiming to offer travelers unforgettable experiences while supporting local ecosystems and communities.
