Russia and Lebanon Working to Restore Direct Flights

Russia and Lebanon are actively working towards the restoration of direct flights between the two countries, according to a statement provided to Izvestia by the Russian embassy in Beirut.

“The issue of resuming direct air connections is a significant concern for both Russian citizens residing in Lebanon and Lebanese nationals. The embassy is closely monitoring this matter. However, despite our joint efforts with the Lebanese community, we have yet to achieve the desired outcome,” said the Russian embassy in Lebanon.

Russian diplomats noted that local authorities in Lebanon are also interested in re-establishing direct flights between Moscow and Beirut. However, they acknowledged that “overcoming well-known geopolitical challenges has proven difficult at this stage.”

“We hope that the current unsatisfactory situation regarding air travel will not persist for long. We continue to seek mutually beneficial solutions to this problem,” the embassy added.

The Lebanese embassy in Moscow confirmed Beirut’s desire to restore air services. According to the Lebanese Ambassador to Moscow, Shawki Bou Nassar, the main obstacle is the Western sanctions imposed on Russia.
