Buckingham Palace’s East Wing Opens to Public for First Time with £75 Tours

Buckingham Palace is set to unveil its previously private east wing to the public for the first time in its 175-year history. Known for its rich royal history and iconic balcony scenes, this section of the palace has been a focal point for national events, from Queen Victoria’s troop welcomes to Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee celebrations.

The rooms behind the famous net curtains of Buckingham Palace’s east wing, untouched until now, will be accessible through exclusive £75 tours starting next week. These tours, initiated by King Charles, are limited to just 20 visitors at a time and have already sold out rapidly since their release earlier this year. Tickets must be purchased alongside standard tickets for the Palace’s State Rooms, where visitors can view the striking new portrait of the king by Jonathan Yeo displayed in the ballroom.

Funded through a temporary increase in the Sovereign Grant, totaling £369m, the 10-year reservicing program aims to preserve Buckingham Palace for future generations. More information about Buckingham Palace tours and summer opening hours can be found on the Royal Collection website.
