Wizz Air to Resume Flights from Riga Airport

Currently, Wizz Air operates flights from Riga to Oslo (Norway), Eindhoven (Netherlands) and Dortmund (Germany). At the moment it is possible to travel from Riga Airport to a total of 17 destinations and the flights are offered by four airlines: Wizz Air, the national airline airBaltic, the German airline Lufthansa and the Finnish air carrier Finnair. A full list of current and planned Airport destinations is available here: www.flyfromriga.lv.

It is important to bear in mind that when planning a trip, passengers should get familiar with both the epidemiological safety requirements of the Airport and the airline, and the restrictions on staying in the country of destination. For example, airBaltic does not accept on board its aircraft passengers with a body temperature above 37.8 degrees. The body temperature check is performed at the Airport before the security control area.

Passengers must wear a facemask in Riga Airport. Entrance to the terminal is allowed only to passengers with boarding passes – persons seeing off or meeting passengers are not permitted to enter the terminal. The Airport also encourages passengers to keep their distance where possible and to wash and disinfect their hands regularly. To help passengers comply with these requirements, distance signs as well as hand sanitizers are available at the Airport terminal.

The Airport also reminds that passengers returning to Latvia from countries where the Covid-19 cumulative 14-day incidence rate per 100 000 inhabitants is between 15 and 25 must observe 14-day self-isolation. In such case, when crossing the Latvian state border, travellers must fill in a confirmation that the conditions of self-isolation will be observed, as well as provide information about the place where the conditions of self-isolation will be observed. The relevant form can be received and completed by passengers on board the aircraft during the flight. A list of these countries is available on the website of the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control https://spkc.gov.lv/lv/tavai-veselibai/aktualitate-par-jauno-koronavi/valstu-saslimstibas-raditaji-a/.

As reported before, with a gradual increase in the number of flights and the opening of new destinations, Riga Airport served 10 308 passengers in May, which is 7248 passengers more than in April. However, the decrease in the number of serviced passengers in May, as compared to 2019, is still significant – 98.6%.

In the first five months of this year, as compared to the corresponding period of 2019, the number of passengers served at Riga Airport dropped by more than a half – by 54.7%.
