Wizz Air has announced further expansion of its base in Sibiu with the allocation of a second aircraft in August 2025. This addition will significantly boost capacity from the Transylvanian city, with more than 320,000 seats available during the summer of 2025—a 58% increase compared to the previous summer.
New Routes and Increased Connectivity
The expansion will enable Wizz Air to launch six new routes from Sibiu, connecting passengers to Vienna, Hamburg, Frankfurt Hahn, Basel, Rome Fiumicino, and Madrid. Ticket prices for these destinations will start as low as €14.99 (RON 79), making affordable travel more accessible.
Additionally, the airline plans to increase the frequency of three existing routes:
- Memmingen: Daily service
- Nuremberg: Four weekly flights
- Baden-Baden: Four weekly flights
With 11 routes to six countries, Wizz Air aims to strengthen Sibiu’s connectivity and meet growing demand for budget-friendly air travel in the region.
A Milestone for Wizz Air in Romania
This development marks a significant milestone in Wizz Air’s Romanian operations, with a total of 33 aircraft based in the country by summer 2025. Since entering the Romanian market in 2006, the airline has steadily increased its investment, operating 169 routes from 13 Romanian airports to 72 destinations across 24 countries.
Commitment to Romania
Wizz Air currently has operational bases in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, IaÈ™i, TimiÈ™oara, Craiova, and Sibiu, employing over 1,500 people in Romania. The airline’s continued expansion underscores its commitment to providing affordable and convenient travel options for Romanian passengers.
