Maldives Welcomes Over 1.5 Million Foreign Tourists, Russia Leads the Arrival Chart

The Maldives has greeted more than 1.5 million international tourists since the beginning of the year, with over 180,000 arriving from Russia, according to reports from Raajje cited by Interfax.

From January to November 8, the Maldives recorded a 12.8% increase in tourist arrivals compared to the same period last year. The country anticipates hosting 1.9 million tourists by the year-end. Russia maintains its lead in tourist arrivals, constituting 11.5% of the total foreign tourist influx, as per the country’s Ministry of Tourism.

Russian tourists took the top spot with over 180,000 arrivals, followed by India at almost 168,100 (10.8% of total foreign guests) and China with 166,430.

Rounding up the top five are the United Kingdom (126,750) and Germany (111,800). Italy (92,600), the United States (60,800), France (41,700), Spain (33,570), and Switzerland (30,730) complete the list.

The Maldives welcomed more than 40,000 foreign tourists from November 1 to 8, marking a 4% increase from the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

On average, 5,000 tourists arrive daily in the archipelago, with an average stay duration of seven days. The President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, has previously expressed plans to boost annual tourist arrivals to 3.5 million by 2028.
