British Airways to Launch First Ever Flight to Tromsø

British Airways has announced its inaugural flight to Tromsø, Norway, scheduled to commence operations from December 1, 2024, marking the airline’s northernmost destination globally. The route is now open for bookings.

Tromsø, renowned for its spectacular display of the aurora borealis, is situated in the heart of the northern lights‘ oval, making it one of the best places in the world to witness this natural phenomenon. With average winter temperatures ranging from 0°C to -5°C, the city’s abundant snowfall offers ample opportunities for winter activities such as skiing, mountaineering, and whale watching.

This Arctic Circle destination also appeals to those seeking the charm of Christmas markets, with Tromsø hosting a picturesque market in its main square, Stortorget.

Neil Chernoff, Chief Planning and Strategy Officer at British Airways, expressed enthusiasm about the new route, stating, “We are excited to welcome Tromsø to our route network. It is a growing winter leisure market, offering a plethora of cold-weather activities, and we will be the only premium carrier operating there from the UK. We have optimized the schedule for three- and four-night trips, which are perfect for a destination like this.”

British Airways Holidays offers a variety of holiday packages, including flexible payment options, ATOL protection, and a 24-hour helpline. For instance:

  • A three-night stay at the Comfort Hotel Xpress Tromso, including economy return flights from London Heathrow with one checked bag at 23kg per person, starts from £379 per person, traveling in January 2025. Book by May 31, 2024, at www.ba.com/holidays.

Return flights are currently available from £153 and will operate twice a week until March 27, 2025. Customers are permitted to bring skiing or snowboarding equipment as part of their checked baggage, provided the bag dimensions are within 190 x 75 x 65cm.
