On December 23, Aeroflot will operate a special retro flight, SU1696/1697, from Moscow to Kaliningrad and back, marking the conclusion of a unique series of flights dedicated to Aeroflot’s 100th anniversary, as reported by AVIA.RU.
Passengers on this distinctive flight can expect a complete immersion in the atmosphere of civil aviation from the 70s and 80s. Check-in at Sheremetyevo Airport and Kaliningrad will take place at separate counters with retro-themed backdrops. Each traveler will receive commemorative luggage tags as souvenirs.
Cabin crew members will be dressed in uniforms modeled after historical designs from the 70s and 80s. During the flight, passengers will have the opportunity to try meals inspired by mid-20th-century onboard rations and nostalgic soft drinks such as “Dyushes,” “Baikal,” “Buratino,” and “Tarkhun.” Business class travelers can anticipate a stylized wine list with unique presentation and assortment.
Fascinating facts about the history of the airline route between Moscow and Kaliningrad will be available in informational brochures placed in the pocket of each seat. Passengers will also receive memorable gifts, including certificates and collector’s badges, a sweet surprise from the “Vernost’ Kachestvu” (Quality Loyalty) factory, and an aviation-themed playlist from the HiFi streaming service “Zvuk.”
In 2023, Aeroflot conducted retro flights from Sheremetyevo Airport to popular Russian destinations, including Sochi, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Vladivostok, Krasnoyarsk, and Novosibirsk. To authentically recreate the atmosphere of the past, the project team delved into archives and memories of Aeroflot flight attendants who worked for the airline in the 70s and 80s. The dishes and drinks for the onboard menu were selected based on actual documents from the USSR era. Several cabin crews underwent additional training for the project to familiarize themselves with service procedures used in civil aviation in the past. The retro flights by Aeroflot received numerous positive responses and expressions of gratitude from passengers.
