A large demonstration against mass tourism in Palma de Mallorca ended in clashes with police after thousands of protesters took to the streets to voice concerns over overtourism on the Spanish island.
According to police estimates, around 25,000 people participated in the march through the city center, carrying banners reading “Mallorca Is Full” and “There Is No More Room.”
Violence Breaks Out After Peaceful Demonstration
Tensions escalated on Tuesday evening when clashes erupted between some protesters and police officers. Videos shared on social media showed officers using batons to disperse crowds.
Local media reported that 12 people were injured during the disturbances, while one protester was arrested. Authorities have not yet determined what triggered the confrontation.
Protest organizers have called for an investigation into the actions of the police, arguing that officers used excessive force. However, local authorities maintain that it was protesters who disrupted public order.
The demonstration is the latest in a series of anti-tourism protests across Spain, where residents in several popular destinations have voiced growing concerns over overtourism, rising housing costs, and pressure on local infrastructure.
