Abu Dhabi has announced plans to build Sphere Abu Dhabi, a major new entertainment complex on Yas Island that is expected to become one of the UAE’s most ambitious immersive event venues.
The project, inspired by the iconic Sphere venue in Las Vegas, will be developed through a partnership between the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Sphere Entertainment Co.
$1.7 Billion Entertainment Development Planned
The new Sphere Abu Dhabi complex will be constructed between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, just minutes from Zayed International Airport.
The project carries an estimated investment value of US$1.7 billion, with construction expected to be completed by the end of 2029.
The venue will accommodate up to 20,000 visitors and is expected to generate a significant number of new jobs across the region following its opening.
Immersive Experiences And Global Events Planned
Sphere Abu Dhabi will host the brand’s signature immersive productions known as Sphere Experiences alongside concerts featuring regional Arab artists and international performers.
The venue will also be used for a wide range of large-scale events including product launches, sporting events, and multimedia presentations.
Officials said the entertainment programming will incorporate Emirati culture and heritage as part of the venue’s creative identity.
The spherical LED exterior façade is also expected to feature digital artworks created by Emirati artists.
Yas Island Expands Global Entertainment Position
The project forms part of Abu Dhabi’s broader strategy to strengthen Yas Island’s position as a leading international entertainment and tourism destination.
Yas Island already hosts major attractions including Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, Yas Marina Circuit, and Yas Mall.
Abu Dhabi Focuses On Long-Term Tourism Growth
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, said the investment reflects the emirate’s long-term commitment to developing world-class entertainment infrastructure.
He said demand for premium entertainment experiences continues growing across the region and described Sphere Abu Dhabi as a signal of the emirate’s ambitions for future development.
Entertainment Sector Continues Diversifying UAE Economy
Authorities expect Sphere Abu Dhabi to become both a global entertainment landmark and a major contributor to the UAE’s economic diversification strategy.
The development also reflects increasing competition among Gulf destinations investing heavily in tourism, entertainment, live events, and cultural infrastructure as part of broader long-term growth plans.
