Wizz Air has announced a strategic shift leading to the closure of its subsidiary, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi. From September 1, 2025, all flights operated by this division will be terminated, resulting in the cancellation of more than 20 routes to destinations including Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, Egypt, as well as several cities in Central Asia and Europe.
The airline cites two main reasons for this decision: engine reliability issues in the region’s extreme heat, which reduced operational efficiency, and geopolitical instability that caused airspace closures and schedule disruptions.
However, Wizz Air will not completely stop flights to Abu Dhabi. Routes from European cities such as Kraków, Katowice, Budapest, and Vienna will continue to be operated by other group subsidiaries — Wizz Air Hungary and Wizz Air Malta.
Passengers holding tickets for Wizz Air Abu Dhabi flights after August 31 will be notified by email with options for either a full refund or alternative routes. Those who booked via travel agents should contact their agents directly.
This move is part of Wizz Air’s broader strategy to strengthen its position in key European markets, including Central and Eastern Europe, Austria, Italy, and the UK. Aircraft and crew freed up from Abu Dhabi operations will be redeployed to more promising European routes.
