In the crystalline seclusion of the UNESCO-protected Baa Atoll, a new vision of Maldivian luxury has quietly taken shape. Somewhere Island has begun welcoming its first guests, introducing an ultra-exclusive private-island experience defined by intimacy, design intelligence, and deeply personalised service.
The opening marks the first phase of .Here, a two-island concept limited to just nine private residences across untouched natural isles. Designed for travellers seeking meaning over magnitude, Somewhere Island positions itself as a soulful alternative to traditional high-gloss resort luxury.
Beach-to-overwater living with sky pools
Somewhere Island features seven expansive residences that blur the line between beachfront and overwater living. Each villa is crowned with a suspended sky infinity pool, some stretching up to 47 metres in length, offering uninterrupted views across the Indian Ocean from sunrise to dusk.
Every stay is guided by a dedicated Roohu butler, curating moments tailored to each guest. Experiences range from candlelit dinners beneath the stars and private sandbank picnics to in-residence wellness rituals and bespoke explorations of the surrounding biosphere. Guests may also access selected facilities at nearby Finolhu when a more social or energetic atmosphere is desired.
The design vision, led by Kulör Group with interiors by Muza Lab, balances sustainability with sculptural elegance. Natural materials, soft tones, and open spatial planning allow the architecture to dissolve into its surroundings rather than dominate them.
Reached via a scenic 30-minute seaplane journey from Malé, Somewhere Island reimagines exclusivity as quiet connection rather than spectacle.
A culinary experience rooted in place
Dining is anchored by Executive Chef Georgios Vasilopoulos, whose two-decade career includes leading roles at Badrutt’s Palace and Raffles Dubai. At Safar restaurant and bar, his menus combine global culinary refinement with ingredients sourced from the Indian Ocean and the wider biosphere reserve.
The experience extends beyond the restaurant, with private in-villa tastings, barefoot beach feasts, and personalised menus shaped around guest preferences, seasons, and setting.
Nowhere Island and the next chapter
The second island, Nowhere Island, is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2026. Designed for complete privacy, it will be available exclusively for full buyouts and will feature a five-bedroom Presidential Residence, the Fehi Wellness centre, and expanded watersports facilities.
Steven Phillips, General Manager of .Here, describes the concept as an intentional retreat rather than a destination defined by scale. The focus is on emotional connection, privacy, and a sense of belonging that unfolds slowly over time.
Rates and positioning
Rates at Somewhere Island begin at £13,408 per night for a three-bedroom villa, including daily breakfast. Four-bedroom villas start from £16,097 per night. Exclusive hire of Nowhere Island will begin from £43,832 per night.
With its restrained footprint, architectural sensitivity, and deeply personal service philosophy, Somewhere Island sets a new benchmark for understated ultra-luxury in the Maldives, speaking to travellers who value silence, space, and sincerity above all else.
