The first-ever non-stop flight between Australia and the Maldives is set to launch from Melbourne, marking a major milestone for travel between the two destinations following final Australian regulatory approvals.
The new direct service is being introduced through a partnership between Melbourne-based travel company Luxury Escapes and Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives.
Travel Time Cut Almost In Half
Until now, travellers flying from Australia to the Maldives were required to transit through hubs such as Singapore, Doha, Colombo, or Dubai, with total travel times often exceeding 20 hours.
The new direct flights will reduce journey times to around 11 hours from Melbourne to Malé and just over 10 hours for the return leg.
Weekly Seasonal Flights Begin From Melbourne
The history-making service will operate as a weekly seasonal route between Melbourne and the Maldivian capital of Malé.
The inaugural flight is scheduled to depart Melbourne at 11.20pm on Monday night.
Flights Available Through Luxury Escapes Packages
The flights will be sold exclusively as part of Luxury Escapes holiday packages rather than as standalone airfares.
Launch offers start from AU$2,599 per person and include return flights alongside five nights’ accommodation at selected five-star Maldives resorts with additional inclusions.
$100 Return Flight Promotion Announced
To celebrate the launch, Luxury Escapes announced a limited promotion offering 100 return Economy flights for AU$100 including taxes.
The company said the promotional fare would cost less than a typical return taxi or rideshare trip between Melbourne city centre and the airport.
The discounted flights will be available for travel between June and September 2026.
Growing Demand For Premium Indian Ocean Travel
The Maldives continues to rank among the world’s most sought-after luxury leisure destinations, attracting strong demand from honeymooners, resort travellers, and premium holiday markets.
The launch of direct Australia-Maldives flights reflects growing interest in long-haul leisure travel and premium resort experiences among Australian travellers.
