Four Seasons has announced its long-anticipated return to Germany with the future opening of Four Seasons Hotel Berlin, developed in partnership with Gruppo Statuto. Set to debut in late 2027, the project will transform the iconic Hotel de Rome in the capital’s historic Mitte district into a fully reimagined luxury experience.
The 19th-century landmark, originally built as the headquarters of Dresdner Bank, first became a hotel in 2006. Under the new plan, the property will undergo a large-scale renovation that preserves its storied façade while redesigning its approximately 140 guest rooms and suites, restaurants, bars, and public areas. The refreshed design will blend timeless elegance with modern sophistication, reflecting Berlin’s signature mix of history, creativity and contemporary culture.
Alejandro Reynal, President and CEO of Four Seasons, highlighted the importance of returning to the German market: “Berlin is an important European destination to add to our global portfolio. We are proud to reestablish Four Seasons as the leading luxury hospitality offering in the market and to collaborate once again with Gruppo Statuto.”
Located on Bebelplatz, surrounded by cobblestone streets and some of the city’s most important cultural sites, the future Four Seasons Hotel Berlin will place guests within steps of St. Hedwig’s Cathedral and the Unter den Linden State Opera, and within walking distance of Brandenburg Gate, Gendarmenmarkt and Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The property will continue operating as Hotel de Rome through 2026 under the management of Gruppo Statuto. Renovation works will proceed ahead of the 2027 reopening, with select services remaining available during the transition. The hotel will be led by General Manager Christian Poda, a Berlin native and Four Seasons veteran whose 26-year career includes regional oversight of properties across Greater China.
Giuseppe Statuto, owner of Gruppo Statuto, noted that the project builds on the partners’ successful collaborations in Italy, including Four Seasons Hotel Milano and San Domenico Palace in Taormina. “We will elevate the guest experience while thoughtfully enhancing the Hotel’s existing character,” he said.
Four Seasons Hotel Berlin will feature design by renowned architectural studio Humbert & Poyet, including three restaurant and bar concepts and a panoramic rooftop terrace poised to become a standout gathering spot in the city. A spa and fitness centre will be located in what was once a jewel vault, while more than 1,000 square metres (10,800 square feet) of indoor and outdoor event space will accommodate meetings and celebrations.
With direct access to high-speed rail at Berlin Hauptbahnhof and proximity to Berlin Brandenburg Airport, the new Four Seasons Hotel Berlin will offer seamless connectivity to major European cities including Vienna, Prague, Zurich, Warsaw, Budapest and Amsterdam.
The opening will mark the brand’s first property in Germany after a two-decade absence, reinforcing Four Seasons’ commitment to expanding its footprint in Europe’s most dynamic destinations.
