Leo Express has introduced additional measures to help passengers stay comfortable during periods of extreme summer heat, including compensation for air conditioning failures, emergency hydration supplies, and new onboard cooling technologies.
The rail operator said it regularly inspects and services its air conditioning systems to ensure reliable operation throughout the summer. If an air conditioning failure affects an entire train, passengers are entitled to compensation ranging from 25% to 150% of the ticket price in Leo Credits, depending on the severity of the disruption.
Compensation for Air Conditioning Failures
Passengers receiving Leo Credits can use them to purchase future train tickets or onboard refreshments.
“Prevention is key. We regularly inspect and service our air conditioning systems to ensure they remain fully functional throughout the summer. If the air conditioning fails in an entire train, we provide passengers with compensation ranging from 25% to 150% of the ticket price in Leo Credits, depending on the severity of the situation,” said Emil SedlaÅ™Ãk, spokesperson for Leo Express.
The carrier also automatically adjusts onboard temperatures so the difference between the interior and exterior remains within the recommended 5–7°C, helping reduce the risk of temperature shock for passengers.
Additional Cooling Measures
Before each departure, trains are pre-cooled to provide a comfortable environment from boarding. Where train design allows, Leo Express may also improve ventilation by opening windows or using curtains and blinds to reduce heat inside the carriages.
Some trainsets are equipped with backup power supplies that help maintain air conditioning during power outages. The operator is also testing additional technologies, including misting devices and portable fans, to further improve passenger comfort during heatwaves.
Focus on Passenger Hydration
Alongside cold drinks and refreshments available onboard, including ice cream on selected services, Leo Express now carries emergency bottled water and newly introduced single-use dissolvable electrolyte tablets.
When mixed with water, the tablets help replenish fluids and essential minerals lost through perspiration, reducing the risk of dehydration during periods of high temperatures.
Leo Express said the measures are part of its broader commitment to ensuring passengers enjoy comfortable, safe and reliable journeys even during increasingly frequent summer heatwaves.
