Frontier Airlines has announced plans to introduce Starlink high-speed inflight internet across its fleet, becoming the first U.S. airline to offer passengers connectivity through a new system managed directly by Starlink. The rollout is scheduled to begin in early 2027.
Developed by SpaceX, Starlink will provide passengers with broadband internet capable of HD video streaming, online gaming, video calls, browsing, and productivity applications throughout their journey.
First U.S. Airline With Direct Starlink System
Frontier said it expects its first Starlink-equipped aircraft to enter service in early 2027. The airline will use a new connectivity system managed directly by Starlink, delivering gate-to-gate internet access rather than limiting connectivity to cruising altitude.
In addition to enhancing the passenger experience, Starlink will support Frontier’s flight crews, maintenance teams, and ground staff with continuous connectivity, helping improve operational efficiency and customer service.
Part of a 1,000-Aircraft Global Rollout
The deployment is part of a broader agreement involving Indigo Partners’ portfolio airlines. Alongside Frontier Airlines, Starlink will also be installed on aircraft operated by Wizz Air, Volaris, JetSMART, and Cebu Pacific.
Combined, the five carriers expect to equip more than 1,000 aircraft with the next-generation inflight connectivity system, making it one of the largest Starlink aviation deployments worldwide.
“Starlink will provide our portfolio airlines with reliable, high-speed connectivity, further enhancing the customer experience of flying on Wizz, Frontier, Volaris, JetSMART and Cebu,” said Bill Franke, Managing Partner of Indigo Partners.
Customer Experience Investment
Jimmy Dempsey, Chief Executive Officer of Frontier Airlines, said the new service is part of the carrier’s broader strategy to improve the travel experience while maintaining its ultra-low-cost model.
“Starlink transforms the onboard experience, giving customers the flexibility to work, stream, browse, and stay connected throughout their journey. Alongside the introduction of First Class seating and enhancements to our loyalty program, it’s another example of how we’re evolving the travel experience while staying true to our commitment to offering the lowest fares,” Dempsey said.
The Starlink rollout follows Frontier’s recent investments in premium seating and loyalty program enhancements as the airline continues expanding its onboard product.
