Kyrgyzstan’s civil aviation authority has temporarily grounded the entire fleet of regional carrier TezJet following a landing gear collapse involving one of the airline’s McDonnell Douglas MD-83 aircraft during take-off from Bishkek.
The incident occurred on 7 July 2026 as the aircraft was departing for Osh International Airport. According to initial reports, the landing gear failed during the early stages of the take-off roll, causing the aircraft to tilt to one side while remaining on the runway.
No Fatalities or Serious Injuries
Authorities said the aircraft did not leave the runway, helping prevent a more serious accident. No fatalities or serious injuries have been reported among passengers or crew.
The aircraft involved, registered EX-80003, is a McDonnell Douglas MD-83.
Entire Fleet Grounded for Inspections
Following the accident, Kyrgyzstan’s civil aviation authority ordered TezJet to suspend operations while maintenance inspections are carried out across its entire fleet.
The precautionary grounding will allow engineers and investigators to assess the airworthiness of the airline’s aircraft and determine whether any systemic maintenance issues exist.
TezJet Fleet
According to fleet data, TezJet currently operates two Avro RJ85 regional jets and two MD-83 aircraft.
One RJ85 has reportedly been parked at Bishkek since 3 July, while the second operated a flight to Osh on the day of the accident. The airline’s other MD-83 had flown from Delhi to eastern Kyrgyzstan on 7 July before being repositioned to Bishkek the following day.
Investigation Continues
Investigators are expected to examine the failed landing gear, aircraft maintenance records and operational procedures to determine the cause of the accident.
The duration of the fleet grounding has not yet been announced. TezJet’s operations are expected to remain suspended until the inspections are completed and the civil aviation authority determines that the aircraft can safely return to service.
