A 49-year-old Sacramento resident has been arrested after federal authorities say he attempted to pass through security at Sacramento International Airport carrying what investigators described as a bomb capable of damaging an aircraft.
The incident occurred over the weekend when Transportation Security Administration officers identified suspicious items during checkpoint screening, leading to an immediate law enforcement response.
Federal prosecutors say the suspect was carrying multiple potentially dangerous items alongside the device.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, investigators recovered what they described as an explosive device powerful enough to damage an aircraft, along with a torch lighter, knife, zip ties and several additional items.
Officials also said the man was wearing latex gloves and a face covering while attempting to pass through the security checkpoint.
Investigators recovered five mobile phones from the suspect.
One device reportedly contained a 15-minute countdown timer that had already been activated, while another displayed a message stating: “We will be awaiting your call.”
The arrest took place before the individual boarded any aircraft.
Sacramento International Airport serves millions of passengers annually and operates extensive TSA screening procedures designed to detect prohibited items before passengers enter secure zones.
