Kuwait International Airport has officially resumed operations at Terminal 1 as flights gradually return under a phased reopening plan following extensive repair works, operational upgrades and improvements to airport infrastructure.
The reopening marks an important step toward restoring full airport capacity after months of development work designed to enhance passenger experience, operational efficiency and overall readiness.
Authorities say the return of services is being carefully managed to ensure smooth passenger flows while maintaining security and emergency preparedness measures.
Terminal 1 Begins Phased Return To Operations
Terminal 1 resumed operations on Monday with flights from Arab and international airlines gradually returning under an approved timetable established by the Public Authority for Civil Aviation.
According to airport officials, approximately 18 flights were scheduled during the first day of operations as authorities assess performance before expanding capacity further.
The initial phase currently allows one flight per airline while airport operators evaluate procedures and operational efficiency.
Airport Upgrades Focus On Passenger Experience
Officials say Terminal 1 underwent a comprehensive redevelopment programme covering multiple areas of airport infrastructure and passenger services.
The improvements were designed to streamline passenger journeys from arrival through departure while enhancing operational systems and technical capabilities.
Airport executives say travelers have already responded positively to the changes introduced during the redevelopment process.
Security And Emergency Measures Remain Priority
Authorities emphasized that Terminal 1 is operating under strict security procedures and precautionary measures.
Airport operators confirmed emergency response protocols and civil defense requirements remain fully integrated into daily operations.
“All travel procedures are being implemented with emergency response plans and civil defense requirements in place,” said Mansour Al-Hashemi, Director of Operations at Kuwait International Airport.
Officials added that operational decisions regarding further expansion remain dependent on current security conditions and related procedures.
Government Coordination Supported Reopening Effort
Authorities credited the successful reopening to extensive coordination between multiple government agencies, airlines and airport partners.
Officials highlighted cooperation involving ministries, customs authorities, airlines, hajj missions and ground handling companies throughout the process.
The reopening also follows operational preparations connected to this year’s hajj travel season, which authorities say helped test readiness across airport systems.
Kuwait Airways Ready To Support Expanded Operations
Kuwait Airways confirmed it is fully prepared to provide ground handling services for airlines operating from Terminal 1.
The carrier says preparations began months earlier in coordination with aviation authorities and government agencies.
Upgrades include dedicated premium check-in facilities and operational improvements designed to support increasing passenger volumes.
Passengers have also been reminded to arrive at least three hours before departure as authorities continue monitoring performance during the initial phase.
Full Operations Still Dependent On Conditions
While Terminal 1 has resumed flights, officials stress that complete restoration of operations will depend on evolving security circumstances and future operational assessments.
For now, Kuwait International Airport’s gradual reopening strategy reflects a broader focus on balancing efficiency, passenger demand and operational resilience as air travel continues recovering across the region.
