The themed transformation will remain in place until 30 September 2029 as part of a tourism and recovery initiative created following the 2024 earthquake that affected the Noto Peninsula region.
Project Supports Tourism And Earthquake Recovery
The initiative was developed through a partnership between Ishikawa Prefecture and the Pokémon With You Foundation.
Officials said the project aims both to support communities affected by the 2024 disaster and to strengthen tourism across the prefecture.
The airport’s new branding includes a colourful logo designed to create a welcoming atmosphere and spread positive energy to visitors arriving in the region.
Pokémon Decorations Installed Across Airport
The airport’s arrival lobby features artwork created in 2024 showing Pikachu, Plusle and Minun as part of the region’s reconstruction support campaign.
An atrium inside the terminal includes a large Pikachu statue standing on top of an airplane, while walls throughout the airport are decorated with numerous Pokémon characters.
The observation deck area also features extensive Pikachu-themed artwork and illustrations.
All Flying-Type Pokémon Featured
The entire airport grounds showcase all 111 Flying-type Pokémon characters as part of the immersive themed experience.
The attraction is expected to appeal to families, anime fans, international tourists and Pokémon enthusiasts visiting Japan.
Pokémon-Themed Food And Merchandise Available
The airport restaurant will introduce a special Pokémon-themed menu including pancakes and themed drinks.
Visitors will also be able to purchase exclusive merchandise on the terminal’s second floor, including T-shirts, keychains and luggage tags available only at the airport.
Special Pokémon Buses To Operate Across Noto
Following the airport reopening, two themed Pokémon buses will begin operating within Ishikawa Prefecture.
One will serve as an express route connecting Kanazawa Station, Noto Satoyama Airport and Wajima City once daily.
The second will function as a sightseeing bus transporting visitors to Pokémon-themed attractions across the Noto region, including the Wakura Pokémon Footbath.
Airport Continues Tokyo Haneda Flights
Noto Satoyama Airport continues operating regional flights linking the area with Tokyo Haneda Airport.
Authorities hope the themed airport project will increase visitor numbers and help accelerate tourism recovery in the region over the coming years.
The initiative also reflects the growing role of Japanese pop culture and character tourism in regional tourism development strategies across the country.
