Qatar Airways Reports Nearly $2 Billion Profit Despite Geopolitical Turbulence

Qatar Airways Group has reported a post-tax profit of QAR 7.08 billion (US$1.94 billion) for the 2025/26 financial year, delivering one of the strongest performances in its history despite geopolitical disruptions during the final weeks of the reporting period.

The results reinforce the airline group’s position as one of the aviation industry’s most resilient global operators as international travel demand continues to recover and expand.

Passenger Numbers Continue To Rise

During the financial year, Qatar Airways carried more than 41.8 million passengers across its international network, maintaining strong global connectivity through Hamad International Airport in Doha.

The airline said it continued investing heavily in customer experience, operational reliability and network expansion while rebuilding schedules affected by regional instability.

Qatar Airways is expected to serve more than 160 destinations by summer 2026 as it accelerates international growth plans.

Cargo Division Maintains Global Leadership

The group’s cargo business remained one of its strongest performing divisions, transporting more than 1.43 million tonnes of chargeable freight during the year.

Qatar Airways Cargo also strengthened its position as the world’s largest international air freight carrier, holding an estimated 12 percent share of the global cargo market.

The strong cargo performance comes as airlines worldwide continue benefiting from sustained demand for international freight and logistics services.

Operational Performance Wins Industry Recognition

Qatar Airways reported an 86 percent on-time performance rate during the financial year, placing the carrier among the five most punctual airlines globally.

The airline also received the Cirium Platinum Award for Operational Excellence, one of the aviation industry’s highest operational benchmarking honours.

In addition, Qatar Airways was named World’s Best Airline 2025 by Skytrax for a record ninth time, further strengthening its reputation in the premium travel market.

Massive Fleet Expansion Plans

One of the group’s biggest announcements during the year was a landmark agreement with Boeing and GE Aerospace involving up to 210 aircraft and 400 engines.

The deal ranks among the largest fleet commitments in commercial aviation history and signals Qatar Airways’ long-term confidence in global air travel demand.

The airline also expanded its onboard technology offering, becoming the operator of the world’s largest Starlink-equipped widebody fleet.

High-speed internet connectivity is now available across Boeing 777, Airbus A350 and Boeing 787-8 aircraft on multiple long-haul routes.

Hamad International Airport Continues To Grow

Hamad International Airport maintained its position as one of the Middle East’s leading aviation hubs, winning the title of Best Airport in the Middle East for the 11th consecutive year at the Skytrax awards.

Qatar Duty Free also secured the award for Best Airport Shopping globally for the third consecutive year.

The airport remains central to Qatar Airways’ strategy as it continues rebuilding and expanding international connectivity through Doha.

Airline Focuses On Stability And Expansion

Qatar Airways Group chief executive Hamad Al-Khater said the airline demonstrated both operational resilience and financial strength during a year shaped by challenging geopolitical conditions.

He credited the group’s workforce, partnerships and financial stability for helping the airline maintain high standards despite operational pressures during the final weeks of the fiscal year.

Looking ahead, Qatar Airways plans to continue expanding its global schedule while investing in fleet growth, onboard technology and airport infrastructure as competition intensifies across the international aviation market.
