Wizz Air is expanding its operations in Moldova with increased flight frequencies on ten European routes from Chisinau, further strengthening the country’s international air connectivity.
The low-cost airline confirmed that the expansion will be supported by the addition of a fifth aircraft based in the Moldovan capital from 18 September 2026.
Tickets for the expanded schedule are already available through Wizz Air’s website and mobile application.
More Than 500,000 Additional Seats Planned
The new aircraft allocation will add more than 500,000 extra seats to the airline’s Moldova network, helping meet rising passenger demand for both leisure and business travel.
Wizz Air said the expansion will also provide travellers with improved schedule flexibility and more options for visiting friends and relatives across Europe.
The increased frequencies will affect several of the airline’s most popular routes from Chisinau.
Major European Destinations Receive More Flights
The expanded network includes additional services to multiple destinations in Italy, including Venice, Bergamo, Bologna and Verona.
Flights to Paris and Nice in France will also see increased frequencies, alongside routes to Brussels, Berlin, Larnaca and Prague.
The airline said the move reflects continued confidence in the Moldovan aviation market despite wider industry challenges.
Wizz Air Strengthens Dominant Position In Moldova
Following the expansion, Wizz Air expects to hold approximately 62% market share in Moldova.
The airline currently operates flights to 35 destinations across 16 countries from Chisinau.
Ian Malin, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air, said demand for air travel in Moldova continues to grow strongly.
“We know that mobility and air travel are especially important to passengers in Moldova,” Malin said.
“By adding a fifth aircraft to our Chisinau base, we are proud to be on track to surpass the 3 million seats on sale milestone by the end of this calendar year and continue to expand our capacity in the country.”
Airport Highlights Moldova’s Growing Connectivity
Sergiu Spoială, Administrator of Eugen Doga Chișinău International Airport, said the expansion demonstrates confidence in Moldova’s long-term aviation potential.
He added that the additional frequencies would improve flexibility for passengers while strengthening economic and tourism connections between Moldova and the rest of Europe.
Airport officials also described Chisinau’s continued development as a regional connectivity hub as a key part of the country’s broader transport growth strategy.
The latest expansion further cements Wizz Air’s role as the dominant airline in Moldova as competition among low-cost carriers across Eastern Europe continues intensifying.
