Moldova to Launch Digital Nomad Visa in September 2025

A new opportunity is emerging for remote workers in Eastern Europe: the Moldova Digital Nomad Visa, officially announced in August 2025 and set to launch at the end of September 2025.

The visa will allow eligible digital nomads to live in Moldova for up to two years, with the possibility of renewal. While final requirements have not yet been published, officials say more details will be shared closer to the launch date.

What the Visa Means for Remote Workers
Digital nomad visas are designed for employees, freelancers, and entrepreneurs who work entirely online for clients or companies outside of the host country. Applicants are not permitted to seek local employment. Moldova now joins regional neighbours like Romania, Hungary, Montenegro, and Slovenia, all of which have introduced similar residency pathways.

Expected Eligibility Requirements
While the government has not yet confirmed official criteria, applicants can expect to need:

  • A valid passport

  • Proof of remote employment or freelance work

  • Evidence of meeting a minimum income threshold

  • A clean criminal record

  • International health insurance valid in Moldova

  • Proof of local accommodation

Why Moldova?
For digital nomads, Moldova offers an affordable cost of living, a growing tech infrastructure, and easy access to both Eastern and Western Europe. Its emerging digital scene, combined with a rich cultural heritage, could make it an attractive new base for location-independent workers.

As with other countries, Moldova’s visa could eventually evolve to include pathways to long-term residency or citizenship, but that has not yet been confirmed.
